**Diversified Technique**

The Diversified technique uses high velocity and low amplitude thrusts to each joint. Chiropractors will apply a short (low-amplitude) quick (high-velocity) thrust over restricted joints one at a time. This restores the normal function and range of motion to the joint. The patient’s body may be positioned in various ways to optimize the adjustment.

**Thompson Drop Technique**

The Thompson Drop technique uses a special table which administers high-velocity, low-impact thrusts. This table drops slightly when the chiropractor applies thrusts or force during the adjustments while keeping the patient stable. The high-velocity thrusts are applied without causing the patient unnecessary pain, as the slight drop adjusts according to the adjustment motion.

**Activator Technique**

The Activator Technique is a device-assisted method of spinal and joint manipulation. The activator delivers controlled and reproducible impulse force to vertebrae (the small bones that make up the spine) as well as the joints that connect them. This instrument is known for delivering targeted and gentle impulses to the spine.

**Flexion/Distraction Technique**

Flexion distraction is a chiropractic technique used to treat conditions having to do with the lumbar spine. The technique is gentle and uses a non-forced procedure to take pressure off the spinal nerves that may be injured from a bulging or herniated disc. The special treatment table moves in a smooth rhythmic fashion, allowing the chiropractor to gently stretch and bend the back in different directions while they add pressure to various parts of the spine.

**Soft Tissue Manipulation**

–Myofascial Release- an alternative medicine therapy useful for treating skeletal muscle immobility and pain by relaxing contracted muscles, improving blood, oxygen, and lymphatic circulation, and stimulating the stretch reflex in muscles. The focused manual pressure and stretching used in myofascial release therapy loosen up restricted movement, leading indirectly to reduced pain.

–PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation)- a technique employed to improve muscle elasticity and range of motion. PNF is frequently used to restore functional range of motion and increase strength capabilities in patients who have sustained soft tissue damage or in post-surgery rehabilitation. These techniques rely on stretching a muscle to its limit. Doing this triggers the inverse myotatic reflex, a protective reflex that calms the muscle to prevent injury.

–Kinesiology Taping- kinesio taping is felt to cause physiological effects on several body systems. The systems affected by the body are thought to include the circulatory/lymphatic, neural, muscular, and fascial systems, as well as the joints. Kinesio Taping is currently being used to change muscle tone, move lymphatic fluids, correct movement patterns, and improve posture.

–Graston Technique- a technique that incorporates a patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively detect and treat scar tissue and restrictions that affect normal function.

**Rehabilitation/Exercise**

The locomotor system incorporates control (central nervous system), passive (articuloligamentous), and active (muscular) components. The goal of rehabilitation is to improve the effectiveness of chiropractic adjustments so as to achieve a positive effect on the entire locomotor system. Utilizing a partnership of manipulation (passive care) and exercise (active care) should accomplish such an outcome.
